Into the Tech World.....well not really....but a taste

I can't believe I haven't touched this blog a few years back. I had a draft of a blog post that never got posted of which I just posted a few minutes ago and I thought wow...its been that long....I'm pretty sure no one reads this anyway so I might as well treat it as a journal, right? Well maybe not completely, but close to.

After reading the last blog post, I started that blog post after the first semester, crazy that was 2 years ago. I think all in all, I had my fair share of dealing with nerdy people. I find it more hilarious that nerdy is THE trend, I guess we call those people hipsters, right? I experience nerdy on a completely different level and reverting back to the previous post, I will continue the different types of "nerdy", but taking it from point of view after 2 years in the Computer Information Technology department....

1. I did mention the gamer as the first one, and I think it'd take up about a quarter to half of the student in that department. Surprisingly, not all of the CIT students were hard core gamers, just a few. I think you'd find some of the more serious ones in the Computer Science department. And when I say hard core gamers, I'm not talking about 12+ hours on your Xbox or Playstation. I'm talking about ones that you play on your PC. Not to dis on those who use a console, but those who create a server space for their own game play, that's what I call a nerd ;).

2. The Overly Confident Nerd - Now there are a TON of these in whatever tech or science department. Seriously there are the ones that always and I mean ALWAYS, have to be ones that are always right, always trying to correct/outsmart the professor, always being the alpha dog. Not to say that they aren't smart, of course they are, but it is very and I mean VERY irritating that you have someone always talking to you in a condescending manner. Now I've had quite the fair amount of those in every course that I've taken. Maybe sometimes they don't speak in a condescending manner, but if you ask a basic question, of which I have tons because tech things don't come naturally to me, they say something in response to which belittles any intellect you may have in your brain. What was most satisfying was when the professor just ignored them, or even came back and put them in their place :). Now these are your cast of Big Bang Theory...well maybe more so Sheldons. Its a love/hate relationship you have with those people, you recognize and respect their intellect, but their ability to interact with others makes you want to bang your head against a wall.

3. The Humble Genius - These are those who are completely opposite of the overly confident nerd. Well not complete, but close. They are very, very smart. More than likely chance on the same playing field as that of the Overly Confident Nerd, but don't revel in the fact that they are super smart. They know they aren't perfect by any means, but they are super smart and don't try to show off. Some of these people are very quiet, and socially awkward, where as others are actually normal on the social scale. They are willing to help others and not scoff that others are not as smart as they.

After writing just the last 2, I think I'll end this here for now, maybe pick it back up later. Now I can shove every single student into a category, but I think there isn't category for some students, or even some students fit in more than one. Myself where do I fit in the categories of the CIT nerds at BYU-Idaho? I don't know. Maybe the novice more than anything else. I decided on technology because it is a booming business that looks like it won't be going away too soon (let's hope its not). And not only that but because its something that I can take anywhere with me. Proves more to be true since I'm a new mommy (...uh yeah a lot has happened in the last 2 years ;)). I understand the appeal for geeky things and Curtis loves talking tech with me, and for some others computers and programming is a passion, but this is definitely not my passion. You've heard the saying "don't knock it until you've tried it"? Well I thought doing something in the tech world might strike something within me where I'd find a new passion. Uh....I was sadly mistaken. Granted I do love it when code works or I learn something new, but it is not what I love to do in my free time. One of the guys I'm friends with codes on his free time, and that almost seemed a little absurd to me. But I realized just as well, when you look for jobs, people want to see what you do with your free time. See what you can create when you don't have an assignment looming over your head. Doing techy things is that passion for some, but really for me, I'll save the programming for when I HAVE to do something. And when I say "have"...well I'll save that for another blog post ;)

Let's Try this Again....

So after much thought, and considering that me and Curt aren't in school, I thought I'd take another stab at blogging. Now really I feel that me and Curt don't have anything going on that's amazing or even great that people would care to know about or even hear about. We both live boring lives where we just go to school, stay at home and watch a movie or two. Now that school is over, we do everything in the last sentence just minus the school. If we're not sleeping or eating (or relaxing....if even that at all...) we're at work. But none the less I was thinking of ideas of what I could write that would make this a little more fun to read or even have other people read it. For my sisters it kind of makes more sense for them and that's partially because they have friends that actually read their blogs. Me on the other hand have little to no close friends. Now I'm not saying that this is a popularity contest, but I don't really see the need if no one is going to read this. But over time and until I can get this to look better, and come up with funner content, stupid ramblings will have to do.

So me and Curt (as you can tell from previous paragraph) that we're back in the BURG! We had our first semester back from a 2 year hiatus of working and what not, and to say the least it was a hard semester. I didn't do too bad, but Curt did bite off a little more than he could chew. He had a hard time balancing time between school and working 30 hours a week. Overall lesson learned, don't overload yourself. For me it was okay....I learned some computer languages and come to find an appreciation for nerdy people, but at the same time though, they're really weird.

Taking a ton of computer classes with a lot of nerdy and geeky people, I've put them in different categories if you will.
1. The gamer- I would say this takes up approximately 60-80% of the class. Most of the assignments take little to no time at all to finish, and projects you get done within a few days. Majority of the time is taken up by playing either some kind of RPG on either a game system or their massive gaming laptop. Weekends are filled playing World of Warcraft and Mountain Dew.
2. The

Creating a New Blog

So I've been trying to get organize with things, and I was thinking maybe I should start completely on a new blog. Like the beginning of this blog I was on my own, not married yet, so I guess in a sense I feel like I should've started a new blog. But then again its nice that I already have this set up, ya know? Question is to delete this blog or not to delete the blog, that is the question. Maybe I'll figure that out sooner than later, well if you read this within a week or two and its not deleted, I may have not deleted it yet.

On the move again :(. Ever since we've been married we haven't been able to stay in a place more than 6 months at a time. How sad is that? I guess its pretty much like my college life (I moved to a new apartment complex every semester). But really when you have a ton of crap, I hate moving. Really I do...I can only hope that once we get back to school we won't have to deal with all this moving.

Some Thoughts

So I was thinking, since I have a little bit more time to breath since the summer season is pretty much done and we're in our fall shoulder season, I thought I'd start my blog and see if I can keep it going....time will only tell... :p

Anyways so Curtis and I thought we'd try to attempt at preparing for a marath
on. Now since we've been married both of us have gained weight :( and we need the workout. We started a program for novice marathon runners, and we've only just begun :S. I'm doing alright for now, but my shins/calves (I can't tell what is what because its super sore on the inner part of my lower leg). We haven't any idea which marathon we're running or where we're running. I don't even know if we'll have money to pay for the marathon registration so we thought well maybe we'll run that amount of distance, at least we know we could complete a marathon. Maybe some day we'll be able to be apart of a marathon. So far we've been running in the mornings along the George Mickelson Trail and its awesome. Not just because of the gorgeous trail, but it sucks when you try to run and ther
e's no sidewalk. So you have to run on the side of the road, and you have to worry if a car is gonna hit you or not :S Its nice to have a trail where the only kind of traffic you have to worry about is bikes and horses. Its not even that busy, I think every time I've gone running on the trail, I've seen a handful of people. You have to pay to use the trail, which kinda sucks, but its not really expensive. Its only $15 for an annual pass and $3 daily use. So obviously I bought an annual pass, now Curtis has to buy one :). Technically he runs on it, we just haven't had anyone check. The Mickelson Trail is 109 miles from Deadwood, to Edgemont, SD. Some day we want to actually run/hike the entire trail and camp along the way. Maybe someday. Its funny because we see cross country bicyclist, and part of me wishes I could do that. On the other hand, you're on a bicycle, I've never ridden a road bike, and it scares me :p. One step at a time, that's all I can say.

Just one last thought, how do you work these things? Really? The whole templates and gadgets and what not. Really confusing. I think I'm slowly getting the hang of things, but I've been thinking, can someone explain this to me? I'm so lost! Till then things will look a little funky ;)

Yearly Post of the Year :D

So thanks to Kamaile, she reminded me of my yearly blog. I really don't want to put the time into a blog, its like I already do that on my Facebook, so why waste the time on a blog? But I guess I would write in it more, if someone reminded me. Anyways I think last time I wrote it was October and I can't quite remember if we had moved from South Dakota to Montana. At any rate, we have been transient for the past couple years and so far an adventure to put it succinctly. We were in Montana for about 5 months, and then moved back to South Dakota to start up another year at the candy store. The entire winter we brainstormed and came up with new designs for the store and what not. I'll have to hunt down pictures and I'll post them up (that's if I can remember ;)). Anyways its been an interesting summer season. It seemed to zoom by faster than ever. For some odd reason last year it seemed longer, maybe its just me. Anyways Pono graduated in May, and I had a blast, makes me want to go home :'(....but funny how I say I would never move back :p. Anyways the summer season for Keystone, SD was awesome! Compare it to last year, we made a big improvement. To make the summer even better for us this year, we got a niece and a nephew! :D We welcomed Donna Elyse Cotter and Makakoa Saxon Porter into the world :D. Man babies are popping up left and right, but not out of this house ;).....that won't be for a while. Anyways after deliberating the future of the store, me and Curt contemplated our lives and where we want to be, and came to the conclusion that we need to finish school. Now we thought if we go to school what is gonna happen to the store? Well we had a little talk with the owners of the store, and came to the decision that it'll be ran by someone else. So we're hoping this up coming next year we'll be getting back to school. I feel like such a slacker, but later is better than never. So throughout the winter, we'll be here in South Dakota preparing the store for the next manager(s). I skipped through a lot of things, maybe I'll get better and actually post something within the next few days...weeks....or month......who knows, but for anyone that reads this, You already have my facebook :D or at least i think you do ;)

Catching Up

Well its been a while since I've posted anything that's for sure. Seriously I don't keep up with these, and I don't think I ever will. I just tend to forget that I have a blog. Some day...............maybe some day I will keep up a blog :p.

So last time I wrote, I reported about moving to South Dakota and what not. Well the summer tourist season has come and gone. After school had kicked in, more and more families disappeared and more and more older couples trickled in. Its funny but I didn't think about this till now, but people came in as fast or as slow as they could hahaha....*ahem*....anyway moving on. Last time I wrote was the middle of the season. Kind of a sum up of what happened towards the end of the season....we hired what we would call "dirka dirkas" (Arabic speaking ppl) and that was a trip because people would be scared to come in our stores. Sturgis season had come and gone, saw things that were cool and things I really didn't care to see (e.i. leather ppl half naked). Seeing our employees leave was a big relief. No more having to worry about scheduling, no more lazy people milking the clock! And that pretty much sums it up.

The season had slowed down so more time to blog right?........hahaha.....*ahem* yes, that seized to exist. The weather seemed to cool down more which didn't make me way to happy. In the beginning of going to South Dakota, Curt had said we will be there till the first snow. When the first snow had come in, did we leave? Nope.....grrrr....me and cold weather don't get along so well. Then we had a second hit of snow which did take out power lines and we were with out power for almost 24 hrs. South Dakota was looking more and more unappealing, and yet we were still there for a couple weeks. Finally we got out of there this past Sunday and now we're here in Montana.

The driving was boring as ever and long, I hate driving 2 separate cars. Anyways almost got hit by a stupid idiot driver. Dang women who drive SUVs.....no offense to those who drive them....inches from hitting my car, I slammed my breaks in time. I was so shaken up, I couldn't even honk the horn at her. Its over now, and I don't have to see her stupid face again. But yeah the day after we got here at Curt's parent's house, we hunted for an apartment like crazy. Luckily we got one. Fairly cheap as far as rent goes in the area and really nice. Best of all.....IT HAS A KITCHEN!!! Really I'm excited. We haven't moved in quite yet, but by the end of the week we should be moved in. :D

Emerging From the Abyss

So its been a little over a month since I've gotten married and its been a crazy ride so far. From moving into one place to another especially to a place I've never been before to being a supervisor (which I've never had experience with), its been an interesting adventure so far. Moving into an apartment that has no kitchen, living in a town smaller than Rexburg, if you can imagine that, seriously I don't know how I keep my sanity. I partially think its due to Curt who keeps my sanity, for the most part. As everyone says married life is terrific. Of course there are a couple bumps, but always solved by the end of the night :D.

So me and Curt are managing a candy store, Whistle Stop Candy Shoppe, and again the candy business is somewhat booming. We have our good and bad days. Working in the candy store reminds me of working in Disney World out in Florida, seeing tourist from all over. Mainly we see people from the near by states (Nebraska, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Wyoming, Colorado...etc) the list goes on. I'm slightly surprised partially because the way the economy is going but on the other hand, why wouldn't people go here because of the economy? Its cheap because its near by so those who are saving money go here instead of flying out to hawaii or where ever, just making it a good road trip. I haven't worked with teenagers since high school, so working with them again is pretty much nightmare. It makes me reflect on how I acted in high school. Yeah so working with high schoolers....its pretty much the same as working with my brother....lazy, likes to talk about stupid stuff, infatuated with the opposite sex. For example the girls see the "most gorgeous thing on 2 legs" and both girls have boyfriends that they claim they want to marry. I just don't see how girls do that. Though I do have to say that I may have thought that way when I was sixteen....I can't remember. Whatever, I'm tired of working with high schoolers.

There's tons to write more about, but we'll see how things go in the next month. Maybe by then me and Curt will have a blog up and running... :P we can only hope. I know that for sure that the season will pretty much be done which means almost out of South Dakota...whew!
